Wing, DoorDash Launch First-Ever Drone Delivery in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The future of food delivery has arrived here in Charlotte.
If you live near the Arboretum Shopping Center, you could be getting your next meal delivered by a drone. The service launched on Wednesday through a drone delivery service called Wing.
DoorDash Drone Delivery Program Head Harrison Shih said smaller orders don’t always need a car for delivery, so this method of delivery can speed up the process.
“We’re not really looking at this as future technology anymore. We’re looking at this as an operational challenge,” Shih said. “We think this will actually make a lot more opportunities for dashers to do the more complicated orders that make more sense.”
Wing runs and operates the autonomous drones that make these deliveries. The Arboretum serves as the nest.
